Mouse dissappears in documents?

My mouse pointer seems to dissappear when it moving within a document. ???
In Device Manager everything looks fine.

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options, deselect "Hide pointer
while typing."

Its not selected. I've had so much problems with that before so I never
touch that anymore. Once selected it can be hard to de-select. The system
was fine until I tried to do a Win 2000 Pro repair.
