mouse and keyboard problem

My mouse pointer jumps to one of the 4 corners of the screen. Is it because I
am using an optical mouse without a mat? Also, when I use the keyboard the
computer cntinually makes a ping-pong noise. There are no problems with the
keyboard itself but the noise is driving me mad! What can I do?
I would appreciate any help you could give. Thank you.

The smoother the surface the better with an optical mouse.
Update the driver from the manufacturer's site.

Regarding your keyboard noise problem;does it happen when you press any key?

If the toggle key is on then you will get beep sound if you press CAPS
LOCK, NUM LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK keys.

Update the driver of your keyboard. And you may try another keyboard to
test the problem.

ping-pong noise like USB connecting and disconnecting? maybe there is an
issue with the USB port?

The noise from the keyboard occurs when I use any key. For example, as I am
typing this the computer makes a noise every 10 seconds or so. It is a
different noise to something in the USB port being connected or disconnected.
More like a few notes going from high to low.
Again, thank you for your help.

Look in the Control Panel Accessibility applet and see if you have
anything checked in there. If you do, uncheck it and see if the noise
goes away.
