Hi,

I notice that from time to time my system slows down and the hard drive
spins like crazy. I have turned off Indexing (made it manual), and
motmon.exe seems to be the only program taking up CPU time, according to the
CPU column in the Task Manager Processes tab. What is is this process, what
does it do and is there a way to control its behavior, and if so is it even
desirable to do so?

Thanks to anyone who can elighten me on that.

I have never heard of this program before but have you tried searching
for it. It might be in one of the Program Files directories. Maybe you
can identify the program by the location it which it is stored.

Turns out this is a Dell utility that us used for PC monitoring and support.
Can be disabled with no adverse consequences until needed if a problem
develops. It's my understanding that it used by other vendors as well such
as Compaq and others. It stands for MOTive MONitor, and installs by default
in the Motive subfolder (typically under c:\program files).
