More vista woes

L

Lloyd Sheen

Ok so after 2 months of fighting with vista just to do my work I decided to
try Windows Movie Maker. Got ... this far , a dialog box with the text
"Unspecified error".

How helpful. MS since it is your program and your code and your developer
and your debugging, don't you think that it would be somewhat helpful if
your error messages gave some guidance?????

Since this is the first time attempting to use this program it goes into the
not usable pile along with DVD maker, Media Center, Media Player and lots of
other programs.

MS please fix this terribly broken OS. This makes Windows ME look like the
best OS ever produced.

MS has plugged ears now, just as it had when they where making vista.
They dont care about your problems... all they want is your money.

But you will get plenty of smarta**es here to make you misarable.

MVPs and vistafanboys will tell you that vista is a god, and
something is wrong with your computer, or you are stupid.

We both however know that vista is a horrible OS....

Small wonder.
Look who was in charge.

You forgot to mention the trolls here like you that do nothing but
whine about Vista which begs the question WHY are you here?

with your EXTREMELY helpful post and al the pertinent information you have presented a quick fix should be forth coming.

in another life maybe.

you need to post the exact circumstances that lead to the problem for anyone to be able to help.
also as a side note there is a MUSIC,PICTURES,VIDEO news group that might be better for getting help with movie maker.

All applications default to some generic error message if there are no
specific ones that fit. It marginally better then saying nothing when
something goes wrong I guess. ;-)

Sounds like you give up easy.

True, all your mentioned have issues, but to say unusable isn't fair
either. As far as DVD Maker I don't think anybody expects to make the
next Titantic movie with it. It is a simply a little application to
give you an idea how to make a very simple no frills DVD, that's all.
Media Player works, but not as good as some other players you can
download. Again it is a basic tool, it has been upgraded some, but
still needs work.

I'm hardly a fan boy, but we all need to be more objective. Vista has
flaws, all new versions of Windows have suffered from that same fate
until "patched", but on balance it does bring a wealth of new
features, most smaller and nothing really super special, some of the
best new features work behind the scenes, so to reject it outright is
just as unfair as blindly praising it on the other extreme.

maybe you should answer your own question.

Is that idiot still posting in HTML with a scrolling '90s-era sig? Don't
bother even looking at his nonsense anymore.

I wonder.. the internet is evolving... everything is more multimedia..

everything BUT the newsgroups... people insist on having newsgroups text
only....

how many people are still on dialup and are using text only newsreaders?

Not all newsgroups are text only. In fact the most popular ones are
binary images in common file types like .gif, .jpg, and vids in .avi,
mpeg and divX.

guess that includes you self as well. keep away from mirrors.

then why not have attachments and html here too?
for example screenshots

Would be a good idea to have screen shots, but binaries are generally
blocked in non binary groups my many ISPs and third party providers.
Try to attach a image and post it and see if it makes it through. I'm
guessing it won't.

yeah but you can use the ms news server....

and not your isp news server

I'm guessing that Microsoft blocks binary images on their news server for
the same reason others do. They wouldn't want to provide a mechanism for
downloading viruses on their own public forums I bet.
