More than 1 version of Windows XP Professional?

Hi, I would like to know if there is more than 1 version of windows xp
professional. I have a sony vaio laptop that comes with the vaio media
recovery kit, but I don't want to install all the extra "junk" (imho) that
comes with it like AOL, MSWorks (I already have MS Office 2003). My dad
already has a windows xp professional cd (our home desktop) and I have my
windows xp product number extracted from my computer. However, when I enter
the cd key, it says that it's invalid...I was wondering if there is more than
1 version of windows xp professional.

The Product Key affixed to your Sony Vaio Laptop
will only work with the Sony recovery method. It
will not work with any other version of Windows XP.

If you wish to install Windows XP Professional,
you'll need to purchase a "Full Version" of Windows
XP Professional and install it after reformatting your hard drive.

It's not that there's more than one version, it's that the
Product Key needs to match the CD with respect to whether it's
Home or Professional, with respect to whether it's retail or OEM,
and with respect to whether it's Full or Upgrade. Yours doesn't
match his in at least one of those respects.

The key extracted using a keyfinder utility will most likely be the generic
PK Sony uses to install on all their systems, it is not a valid key to use
for reinstalling. Look on the bottom of the laptop for the correct product
key.
You may be able to use your fathers XP CD if it is an OEM version and your
laptop is also XP Pro, it will not work on a retail Pro or if the laptop is
using Home.
