More Duplicate E-mails Outlook 2003

Decided to post a new thread seeing that this has been going on for alot of
users for some time, and since moving from outlook xp to 2003 the problems
began..

E-mails are set to remove from server after 16 days.
auth.pop.....

As stated this never ever happend with outlook xp.

So as expected after upgrading the whole 16 days came down again, which was
fun, but expected.

There are rules created but nothing to cause duplicates.

Now with out notice i'm getting what i would call a mail dump?
Basically the same e-mails being delivered again, but a week later.
I'm receving mails i have already read.

I am going to to clear the webmail account as teadious as it will be and
keep you posted.

Seem's i'm not the only one with this problem, but no one seems to have
pinned down the answer?
This is not a problem with rules...
Please continue to add to this thread if your meeting the same criterial
please.

See if we or microsoft can sort the problem...
bare with me for a day or two as i attempt to sort this out..

Help advice apprciated in advance.

Where going to have to wait on this one,
as its intermitant and no reasoning to it.
So with this in mind, it may be a few weeks before i can report back.
But i will also watch incase someone has previously found the answer.
And been so kind to post in this thread.

So at the moment its still early days....

Summary : emptied all my mail vial "web Mail"
No Duplicates yet?
Have i fixed it ?(How knows, will have to wait).

I think we have a fix for this, but it's still being tested. I don't know
when or how it will be released...

That's got to be good news for all us sufferer's..
-----------------
So Far so good.
Bearing in mind that i have selected that messages sit on the server for 16
days,
before being deleted.

I went to delete the messages from my web mail, but couldnt get in as it
just hung.

So i went into e-mail settings advanced other.....

Unticked the option to leave on the server,
which greyed out the options below.

Applied the the new settings,
Then performed a send and recieve and changed my settings back.

Visited my web mail once again and all the messages had been deleted.
Nothing left over or missed so to speak.

So that was 2 days ago, but i'm confident it WILL happen again.

Its not a fix but a tempary solution..

Hope this helps..

I will seek out this thread again if it happens again...

Cant wait for the fix to be implimented when ever it becomes avilable (above
post).

Thanks for a Positive Reply Jeff :)

You said that when you went to your web interface to delete the message but
that the web interface also hung. If that's the case, it's much more likely
that the problem is with your mail server not being able to deal with the
message than with Outlook.

The web interface hangs when the mail box is full 2,000 e-mails,
so i do think that it isnt soley that issue.
It has happened previoulsy when using outlook xp, but i mentioned
earlier that i never ever recieved duplicate e-mails.

So anyways an update...
10 days in since i deleted the e-mail from my server.

NO duplicates to report on any account?
Now ive mentioned this you just know i will get a mail dump tomorrow.
E-mail is due to expire in 16 days so fingers crossed?

Will keep you posted...

I am having the same problem in Outlook XP - only mine downloads the
duplicates daily. But only once per day, regardless of how many times I
check the account.

Further, I have two POP3 accounts set up, and it only occurs on one of them.
I have "Leave a copy on server" checked on that account to allow access to
those emails from elsewhere. On the system I access the account from at the
office, I have the same settings and get no dupes.

This is making me nuts - if I wait a week, I have 1500 unread emails in my
inbox, all duplicate copies of messages I've read already.

Just received a mail dump this morning.

So i cleared my mail box on the 10th Oct,
and today the 1st November recevied a mail dump from 1 of my accounts?

The earliest duplicate e-mail is on the 19th November right up to today?

So it has happened again.
I will check my mail box via web mail again to see if there are old + 19th
Oct left behind?

I shall return later with more info.

I tryed to check my webmail access but unfortunatly once again,
timed out so i was unable to access what dates were foating around.

And later in the day the 3 other accounts produced the mail dump also.
So i used the method again of changing my advanced settings to
delete from server.

Summary :
Settings to remove from server after 16days
1st mail dump 10th November / all removed from server.
16 days should have expired on the 17th at the latest.
1st Novemeber received 2nd mail dump
Earliest date of duplicate e-mail is the 19th October up to present day.
21 days had passed between 1st mail dump and 2nd dump.
2nd November All e-mails deleted from server once again.

Will keep you posted if and when it happens again.

Would be curious if Jeff can give a little insite to what MS think the
problem could be and is there a date of a patch as of yet.

Thanks for your time.

==========================================
06th November It happened again :(

I cleared all e-mails on the 2nd november
All mail boxes empty.

Woke up to day to find that all accounts have dumped on me.
All duplicates e-mail again.

Earliest duplicate from the 1st November ??
To the present Day..

HELLLLLLP !!!!

Maybe they wernt removed from server as i will be honnest
and did not check via web mail, I assumed that unticking the
advanced option "remove from server" then on a send an
recieve would clear any left overs so to speak.
I will double check everything later upon clearing the mail boxes again.

I do have Norton Internet Security installed too.
Just mentioning that i use it with also anti spam.

Will keep you up dated.

I believe this is the problem described in KB 885243.

I called and got the hotfix for it (office2003-kb885243-glb.exe). This was
not easy to find or to get.

I applied the hotfix, and it had no effect whatsoever. If I enable "leave a
copy on the server" and send myself a test message, i get a copy of that
message every time I do a send/receive after that.

c'mon MS! This is a pretty common issue, I would think, and I never had it
with Outlook 2000. I am now on Outlook 2003 w/BCM SP1. Is there a real fix
yet?

Thanks.

Could you turn on diagnostic logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300479) and post
the OPMLog.log file (preferably as an attachment) after you've done a few
send/receives in which this happens?

Here is the log file. (I dug up a real news client.)

Here is what I did.

Turned on logging
Restarted Outlook
Mailed myself a test message without "leave on server"
sis send/receive a few times, all normal.
enabled "leave on server"
used the "test settings" button to send a test message.
did Send/Receive a few times.
Received only one copy of that message
Manually sent myself a test message
did send/receive a few times
received only one copy
manually sent another test message to myself
did send receive a few times
received repeated copies of that message
disabled "leave a copy on the server"
send/receive
received one more copy

Another mail dump :(

Will just list the dates now as its becoming so complicated to keep up.

Accounts :
Admin 11/11/04
Reg 11/11/04
Meet 11/11/04

So much of a pain this...
