Monitors spontaneously going to DPMS off mode.

Windows XP - SP2
NVidia GeForce FX 5700 - latest driver from Microsoft
Two monitors in case that makes a difference.

What is happening recently is that my monitors will transition to
DPMS off mode randomly and spontaneously while I'm sitting
here in the middle of doing something. This isn't a crash of the
whole system because if I happened to be playing music, the
music will continue and I can VNC to the machine and see
that everything is working fine.

This behavior can be triggered much more easily though by
running a DirectX game. It will typically happen within a
minute or so of starting a DirectX game.

All of my power settings are set to "never"...e.g., never hibernate,
never turn monitors off, etc.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

Todd

The fan on the video card evidently died and the heat sensor was kicking the
card off whenever you started a graphics intensive game which heated up
the GPU. Now, where does one get a replacement for such a fan or is it
likely if the heat sensor has tripped 10 times that the card is shot?
