Monitor?!

Sorry, I wasn't sure which category to put this under. I just bought a new computer yesterday, and I'm having problems with the monitor. It seems to randomly shut off, but sort of goes into a hibernation mode... doesn't completely shut off. This happens quite frequently. When I try to turn the monitor back on, it flashes "No signal! Check the signal cable." All of the wires are plugged in correctly though. I eventually have to flick the switch on the back of the computer, and even reset it a few times to get it working properly again. It's really annoying. Anybody know what the problem could be? Thank you very much for any help.

Problems like this on a new system right out of the box are not good.
Take it back to the store you bought it from and let them figure it out
what the problem is. Have them exchange it for a working system. If you
paid by credit card, and they refuse to exchange the system, call your
credit card company and dispute the purchase charge.

If you really insist on troubleshooting it yourself, then some of the
basic things to check would be bad cable (try swapping with a known good
cable); video card not seated properly in AGP slot; broken or bent pins
in either of the video connections; loose video cable connection; wall
socket is actually putting out the required voltage (110/120V in the US,
240V(?) in UK, etc.); virus check... etc.

You could have your system set to a resolution too high for your
monitor. Or your new system's video card could be failing. Or your old
monitor. Connect the computer up to a different monitor. If you get the
same problem, you know it is the computer and since it is new, take it
back. If everything works fine, first try setting your resolution to
something you are sure your old monitor can handle, like 1024x768. If
you already have the resolution set pretty low, then probably the
monitor is bad.

You didn't say you bought a new monitor also.

In other words, a situation to monitor.
