Hello,

I am desperately looking for a small, free tool

I hope you guys are the experts.

I want a small, tiny, free tool, that shows if somebody wants to access
my computer via Netbios aka SMB aka Microsoft Network

I can generally trust or distrust and decide individually.

Sounds simple?

I don't want a huge, fat, complicated Firewall.

Can you help?

best regards

pierre

Which Windows version are you running?

Are you hoping to restrict access by username/password or machine IPs?

I haven't come across any IP based solutions not requiring a full
firewall but if you're running one of the newer Windows OSs then
username/password is pretty simple. You may find that an FTP server is
a more robust solution for your needs...

no - username/passwords are not good.

People tend to forget this. And I need to communicate them beforehand.

I want a simple, small popup, when somebody tries to access my shares.

Computer xy tries to access your printer/share/....

Allow [yes/no]
[ ] remember my action

Very simple.

Anybody knows help?

Thanks for the idea/hint.

I found a lot of stuff, but actually not what I was looking for. At
least not within 30 minutes.

This one is close

but not free and not selective.

Actually the chance of interactive network access granting should be
standard within any OS. Of course the user should be able to choose or
disable it.

Windows is still too complicated for many users.

My dad could never share and set permissions for a folder.

Try sending ideas for improvement to Microsoft. They don't care and
never write back.

Once again use a search engine, way, way ahead of anything else, you
get the world, bound to be an easy way to suit his skill level. You
will never need Microsoft help.
