Monitor sharing...

How do I share one monitor between two computers?

I used to have this at work... I think you had to press ctrl twice to
switch to a unix machine, but using the same monitor. How would I set
this up at home, cheaply?

TIA.

oh jesus...

The cheapest way -- if you have two inputs which most LCD monitors do
-- they have a digital input and an analog one , you can hook one up
to the digital in and the other to the analog. YOu switch it by the
controls on the LCD between digital and analog input on the menu.

If you dont have them --- some cheaper LCDs only have analog or ifyou
have a CRT you need to buy a KVM (keyboard video monitor) switch box.

Ok. Thanks. I'll need a KVM switch. But one of the computers has an
AT keyboard, which makes it a bit more difficult to get a switch...

Depends on how old it is... some "AT" keyboards are XT/AT,
switchable and pin-compatible with the smaller PS/2 keyboard
plug. If yours is, a simple ~ $1 adapter will allow using
it on a PS/2 type KVM switch. Example,
http://www.tritechcoa.com/images/products/I178432.jpg
to plug the AT keyboard in for use on the KVM, or the
opposite adapter for connecting PS2 KVM cable to AT
motherboard.

Are all AT motherboards compatible with the PS2 KVM cable with the
right adapter? - This is what I'm intending to do.

"All"? I have no idea... in general, yes they are
compatible, it would be a unique issue to a specific
combination.

Why do you bother putting any reply to this question? If you don't
want to help, move on. I wonder why you are looking at the messages in
this Newsgroup. Its existence here is surely based on the concept that
people ask questions and others help if they can.
