monitor/screensavers

I have a Dell Dimension 8200, with 512 MB RAM, running XP SP 1, and monitor is Dell 1702 FP LCD. I have recently had some problems with the monitor looking grainy, blacking out or graying out. Only way to right it was restart. I think I've traced the problem to screensavers: as long as I use only the ones provided with the WinXP system, the monitor is fine -- but it seems to not like other savers. Has anyone else run into this situation? Oh, and the blackouts or grayouts have also occurred when I was using no screensaver at all. Just curious if anyone can tell me more about this. Thanks so much.
