I'm having trouble with my resolution on the monitor. I
had a power outage and everything went crazy. I
reinstalled windows xp. but everything is still a mess.
all I have in my res. is 600x800 and before I had like 5
different types. If you can help, Please and thank you.
Russ.

Re-install the drivers for your video card. You're probably using
the generic video driver supplied with XP. That will only give you
several levels of resolution.

It sounds like at the very least you will need to reinstall your video
card drivers. However, the power outage may have damaged the video card
itself. First, update the drivers from the mftr.'s website. If that
doesn't do it, it's time to swap out the card with a known-good video
card. If you're uncomfortable opening your computer and working with
hardware, take the machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a
Best Buy or CompUSA type of store). If you need more help, please post
back and include what video card you have and what you've already done
to troubleshoot.

Good luck,

remove and re-install your VGA driver and if it is not hardware problem.

Also make sure the monitor driver is matching the hardware you are using.
Good luck.

Update the video drivers from the card manufacturers website first. If that
doesn't help, borrow a friends(if you can) to test if the card or possibly
your motherboard is damaged. Since the card does work, I would suspect video
drivers first.

Must be your video card got zapped. Get a new one.

If the card were "zapped" as you put it, then I'd doubt that he'd get
any video at all.

Most likely the power outage corrupted your video driver OR caused
Windows to substitute the incorrect video driver and when you rebooted
after the outage. And now that you've reinstalled Windows you've
further confused the issue. Check your display properties and see if
you are using the actual video driver for your video adapter. You're
probably now running the default windows install driver. So, go to the
video card manufacturer's web site and download the latest version of
the driver.
