XP does not remember monitor resolution

I have a nice new monitor. I set its resolution to native, 1680x1050 and
everything is fine. But the setting does not survive a reboot. The computer
starts up 1600x900. I don't have this problem if I connect the monitor to a
different computer. The two computers have different video cards, but both
have up-to-date drivers.

Suggestions?

Line 30. Windows XP Doesn't Save User Settings

You might need to change the screen refresh rate under Display
Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor, before that resolution can be
accepted during bootup. Or try a different color quality, just as a test.
