Monitor refreshes itself when artifacts become visible

Alright here's a strange one, i've had an ongoing problem with my PC.

I've concluded its the motherboard and I have a new one coming but I'm
curious if this is fixabe.

I have a ATI 9800 pro and geforce 3 ti 4200, both cards when plugged
in, some letters in BIOS might be PINK and some are normal, unless I
remount the motherboard (then maybe its a different color) its
consistent. Anyhow, when I'm in windows everything recently has been
looking great, but if I go to google where you type in text or
something, i'll get a pink box around my mouse, then it freezes for a
second and monitor refreshes.

I've tried two monitors already, both have been perfect, same with my
graphics cards (AGP, don't have PCI graphics cards to test!). Also a
few times if I click on start menu everything on there looks black and
pink, then monitor will refresh, anyone ever have this really weird
problem?

Before this, I would just have these pink lines running down my
monitor, everything worked fine just really bad ugly artifacts.

My CPU is Athlon XP 2400+ and it was running at 160 F at one point, but
that I told was a little concerning but not a point where it will ruin
the cpu. If its not the mobo its the cpu but i've heard if the cpu was
damaged the computer wouldn't turn on at all!

Thanks!

It was the graphics card... just my bad luck... the GeForce 3 was ALSO
a bad graphics card which led me to false conclusions. Apparently my
Radeon 9800 pro overheated
