Monitor/Refresh Rate/Resolution

my friend is over with his computer, using it on one of
my monitors, the problem is the only resolution the
monitor will display is 848x480 and I know that it can
display 1024x768. We've tried fooling around with the
drivers and refresh rates of the monitor. We even tried a
different monitor with higher capabilites with no
success. If you have any idea what we could do pls help
 
Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest Windows 2000
driver for your graphics adapter.
