Monitor Question

Hi All,

I'm only asking this question because I am an idiot and simply do not
know.

I have a Raedon 9700 All In Wonder and just purchased a 2405FPW.
However, I cannot seem to get above 1600x1200, additionally, there is A
LOT of cursor lag and cursor jumping.

Is it required that I use the DVI cable? I believe that is the video
cable with the strange connections?

What should be the settings in terms of refresh rate and such to get
1920x1600?

Thanks for your help.

I had to update my drivers to the latest version to get my Syncmaster 242MP
to work.

The analog input should work just fine.

you want to use 1920 by 1200 60Hz

Some stupid questions back:

Have you installed the drivers for the monitor?

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...en&releaseid=R91058&formatcnt=1&fileid=118667

(link may wrap)

As the native resolution of the display is 1920X1200, I suppose that is what
you should be aiming for. (Even if it was a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor, which
it isn't, a standard resolution would be 1920X1440.)

ATI lists the 9700 Pro as supporting 1920X1200 at 75 Hz:

http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9700/radeon9700pro/specs.html

so the card should be able to drive the monitor, at least via the VGA
connection. (The monitor runs at 60 Hz at that resolution.) On the other
hand, the 9700 Pro isn't on Dell's compatibility list:

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/lea...desktops&~mode=popup&~series=optix&~tab=other

That seems odd, though: the 9800 Pro *is* on the list, and I believe that
the two cards are quite similar, although the 9800 is newer and higher in
performance. (On the other other hand, Dell lists the 9000 all-in-wonder.
The 9700 has *much* better performance than that.)

I've never operated a monitor that supports DVI, so I'm not familiar with
it. I'd surely give it a try, though, in the belief that digital may be
better than analog.

This is a guess: if it were just a matter of data throughput of the
connection
between the computer and your monitor, I'd think that you'd have more
problems
than just a wonky cursor. You'd have a general problem with everything on
display
not being refreshed in a timely manner.

I'd check with ATI's web site for the most up-to-date display drivers. If
you are
fortunate to have a DVI-D cable (the montor's specs says that it has a DVI-D
port),
try it out (whethere there will be a performance improvement is anybody's
guess).

The tech specs of the monitor
(http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=techspecs&sku

refurbished=) state that the max resolution is 1920x1200. Regardless of
what you do,
you're not going to see anything optimally at 1920x1600.
Thanks for your help.

Sure.
