Monitor problems

Does Microsoft have a hardware diagnostic cd so that I can check out the
source of my monitor problems with my HP laptop. For several months now I
have a display that has vertical lines (blue, red, green cyan) running down
the screen, and recently the screen also has an opaque patch. First there
were only two vertical lines and then all of a sudden more lines and the
opaque patch is visible.

I spoke with a HP rep. and they believe it is video memory and they advise
that I download some diagnostic programs such as Microsoft utility, memtest86
and neither work. I use windows xp professional.

Any suggestions on how to test for hardware problems would be greatly
appreciated.

Memtest test the machine's memory *not* the video memory...
but the problem is probably the monitor itself...
you will need to send it in for repair...
don't let tech support keep delaying you until your warrantly runs out...
you need to get it RAM'ed ASAP
