Monitor Problems

I connected a second monitor to my computer and I want the monitors to mirror
each other. When the second monitor is connected it only shows my desktop
background picture and nothing else; like icons, or the windows bar at the
bottom. I messed with the display settings and made sure the extend window
box is checked, and it is, but is still does not work. How do I fix this?

You have two monitors but still only one (extended) desk top. The monitors
can be set up independant of each other, things like resolution and colour
quality, but bear in mind the fact that you still only have one desk top and
one system. so anything that applies to the desk top or the system such as
task bar, themes, colours, clock, apperances etc apply to the one and only
desk top.

By purchasing and installing a video adapter that's designed for that
purpose. WinXP cannot natively "clone" the display to multiple
monitors; that requires specialized hardware and the accompnaying device
drivers.
