My display settings won't let me go any higher than
800x600 pixels and 6 bit colors. What can I do?

Install a current monitor file and update your video /
graphics driver.

I just want to add that I was working with true colors
and 1200x800 or something like that 2 days ago.

Emily (love your name),

You can try doing a system restore to a date before the display trouble:

START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>
System restore....
By doing this your computer will go back in time to the point when it was
working correctly. So choose a date before the trouble started, if
available, but not too old.
Your email and files will not be deleted. Only the settings will go back.

or find out what type of display adaptor (video card) you are using and go
to the
site of the company that made it to find and download the driver. For
example if you have a nvidia card
you will search for the driver at www.nvidia.com
or if you have an ATI card you will search on www.ati.com

Hope this helps. Let us know.

How do I do that. Thanks for the help.

Go to the web site of the manufacturer of your video card, [or
motherboard if your video is integrated on your mobo.]

Check in device manager to make sure your monitor is
described as "plug and play" and make sure it is detected
correctly.

| Hi,
| Sounds like your graphics card or monitor driver has been
lost
|
| Go to - control panel - display - settings - advanced
|
| You will see "adapter" (which is your graphics card) and
"monitor" which is your monitor seetings. Check the monitor
settings first as it is likely that a "plug and play"
monitor has been substituted - reinstall both graphics card
and monitor drivers.
| Any problems let me know

NO! NO! NO! System Restore is a last resort, what she should do first is
try to roll back to the previous drivers, or choose booting by the last
known good configuration.

System restore....

those are harder to do if you are a novice.
I know that there are other steps but system restore will work without
getting her hands dirty.

Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings, click Advanced. On the
Monitor page it is probably showing not your correct monitor but some
basic type, that is limiting the modes that can be used. Rather than
anything more complicated, uncheck 'Hide modes this monitor cannot
display', then on the Adapter page check 'list all modes' and select
from the list . It is then up to you to keep within the range that the
monitor *can* handle
