Monitor not resizing properly

ok specs first, Im running Vista home prem. 2 Nvidia 7800 GT's in sli. and I
have 4 gig of memory.

When ever I run a game on my computer that resizes the screen resoulution it
always makes the screen become unreadable. The screen has diagonal lines
through it like its trying to display properly, sound and everything else
works fine, just the monitor isn't displaying properly.

I have updated my cards to the newest drivers as of 24.7.2007 and they are
windows verified. All other drivers have been updated as of the same date
too, (sound card, ect.)

the only way I can correct this problem as it stands right now is to reboot
my machine. This problem just recently started when I downsized from a 37"
lcd to a 21" crt, and then up to a 22" lcd. Thought it might of been the CRT
so I bought a new lcd, nope not that. So any help would be appriciated!
Thanks in advance!

If you used WinUpdate to get the "latest" drivers then I suggest that you
try the 162.22 beta drivers from the Nvidia Website if these are not the
ones you are using. Be sure and read the release notes for they may contain
information about SLI issues relative to your configuration.
Are you using the same resolution over the same interface for the new LCD as
you used for the original LCD?

Im using the 158.24 drivers from nvidia. and my current LCD wont go to the
same reasolution as my bigger one would go to... Think thats the problem?
and Im using the same interface (DVI).

What resolutions does your new LCD say it will accept over its DVI
interface. If it is an LCD HDTV it may not accept all the resolutions that
your previous LCD would accept if it was an LCD monitor.

Could this be a refresh rate issue? Isn't 60 Hz pretty much standard on LCD
monitors?

Ok, this answer is like using a sledge hammer to swat a mosquito but it will
work. Do a clean install of Vista with the new monitor attached, and Don't
switch monitors afterwards. :0)

If I understand your new monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and
you have your display and desktop resolution also set to 1680x1050.
If your LCD has a native resolution lower then 1680x1050 have you tried
using it?
You are using the DVI interface and the manual for your LCD states that it
will accept 1680x1050 over DVI.
Have you tried using the LCD's VGA interface instead?

The native res of my monitor is 1680x1050, and the desktop is set to that,
but I still dont think its the monitors fault. This is the second monitor it
has done this on. My video cards only support DVI, however I do have a VGA
adapter and was using that on my other monitor when it happend with that too.
I have tried to fix this problem on both a CRT and a LCD.. had the problem on
both of them.. running out of ideas.. Updated the drivers again last night to
the new Beta drivers, and the problem still persists( had the problem with
the old drivers too) Still lost :p

What is the make/model of your monitor? Can you provide a link to its user
guide?
What happens if you remove one of the 7800 cards so that SLI is not
involved?

Ok hertz are set to 60. only have two choices there 59 and 60. My monitor is
a Proview 22†Widescreen Monitor (PL2230WDBI), and www.proview.net is thier
home page, have to download the manual... I havent taken one of the cards out
yet, however I have disabled them in my BIOS and windows, and same thing
happens...

Perhaps you should take out one of the cards and test both slots to eliminate
the possibility of a defective card or defective motherboard.

Everything else seems set up right.

The user's manual is a little cryptic. It does appear to imply that to use
1680x1050 that you may need to be using VGA at 75Hz. So again I suggest
that you actually remove one of your cards and try the VGA connection.
You might also try one of the lower resolutions listed that support 60Hz at
the same time.

1680 x 1050 is the proper native resolution, 60 Hz is the proper refresh rate.
There should be no reason to use the VGA connector.

Most probably the motherboard or the video card(s) are defective.

Although nVidia has had problems with SLI, I have not read about this problem in
any other posts.

Mallic,

The following forum has a lot of participants who live and breath these type
issues. Try posting your issue there to see what those people have to say:

http://www.avsforum.com/

That site includes a lot of experts in setting resolutions, and all the rest
of it. Just something to try if you're so inclined.

Thanks guys, appriciate all your help. Is there a way to check if your
motherboard has some issues?
I changed each card out to see if that might be the problem, and tried each
PCI-E slot but to no aval,

Is there any way you can borrow another video card to test?

But, it seems to me that what you have already done indicates that the
motherboard is faulty.
