Monitor Goes Black After Installing XP SP2

After installaing SP2 on a Compaq Presario with a Sony
VAIO monitor and restarting, the screen goes black after
POST has run. I get the "Windows XP" screen and then the
screen goes black. Tried using another monitor with the
same results. The Operating System is Windows XP home
edition.
