my LCD flat panel dies after I try to resume from standby
mode. I thought it was just my monitor so I also tried a
different monitor but that didn't work also. Any
suggestions?

Your monitor really dies? When are the services (for the funeral)? Or
were you able to revive it using mouth-to-screen resuscitation or by
using a cardiac resuscitator? So what does "dies" mean? A dead monitor
is a useless monitor until repaired or replaced. Have you actually
killed several monitors now and have a huge pile of them ready to haul
off to the recycle center?

Or did you mean when resuming from Standby mode that the monitor won't
itself come out of low-power mode or that the video card doesn't paint
the screen? Is there an LED on the monitor to indicate low- and
high-power modes? If so, does it change when you exit from Standby
mode? If the monitor won't come out of low-power mode, it could be a
monitor defect (but not likely since you tested with another monitor),
or it could be because it sees no signal from the video card. Could be
your video drivers really don't support Standby mode, so you need to
check if there are newer drivers for your video card. It is also
possible that you selected the wrong "green" mode to use for low-power
mode for the monitor in the BIOS settings.

My guess would be to first look the BIOS settings, then the video
drivers, and then the video card. If the other monitor you tried was
actually tested as good on another computer to ensure it properly
resumes to high-power mode after exiting Standby mode then your LCD
monitor isn't the problem.

It is much more likely to be the video card it is connected to. Some of
these are bad at re-initialising on return from Standby. Go look on the
makers site for new and current drivers compatible with XP - I can't be
more specific without knowing what sort of card it is

my video card is a nVidia TNT2 M64 32 MB. Yes, the monitor
only rivives after I restart the computer.
