my monitor will not stay lit. when i reboot, it will flash a couple of things
then go black. If I turn it off and on it will flash on for a few seconds.
Have been chatting with Dell and determined monitor ok. I think some setting
may have been changed by my 6 year old son by mistake. it is very difficult
to manuver around while trying to turn off and on and getting only a few
seconds to see the screen.
A few times I could vagely see the screen - like dark shawdows, it's very
strange.
Also, have checked the colors, I only have 2 options - 16 & 32 bit, but it
makes no change.
Thank you,
Leah

Can you start in safe mode ?
The screen should stay on so you can go to system restore.
Restore to a day before this happens.

i have tried to start in safe mode, it still only stays on a few seconds
after I turn it off then on. during a boot up i did hit f8 to do a restore
that didn't work. I will try it from the dell solution center. Any other
suggestions?
Thank you,
leah

he had me unplug the data cord and reboot. the box with the colors showed
up and he said that meant the monitor was fine.

Change the refresh rate for the monitor. Start in the Display properties
where you were before setting the resolution and then go to Advanced.
You should find it in there. It may have been set too high and out of
the monitor's usable range.

well Steve, I just switched out monitors. I have a monster monitor from my
old computer. Hooked it up and it worked fine. So much for the crap techs
at Dell. What a waste of my time. That monitor is only about a year and a
half old.

thanks for your time.

It might still not be the monitor. I have ran into situations where the
Microsoft drivers has been downloaded for that device and the machine
exhibit that sought of behavior. Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling
the manufacturers driver usually solve the problem. Make sure you try the
monitor on another machine before you write it off as been bad.

Agreed; test the suspect monitor on the other computer.
