momentary freeze ups

I have xp with sp1a, amd xp1600, 512meg ram. Every so
often, about every 15 or 20 minutes, the computer freezes
up. The mouse will not move, the screen just freezes.
it lasts for about 20 to 30 seconds and then runs great.
Any ideas?????????????????
