MODO SUSPENSION & MODO OFF

My fathers machine 1st displayed MODO SUSPENSION on start
up after he downloaded some 20+ XP Updates/Fixes. On
restarting he got the message MODO OFF and his PC (or
monitor) appears to have stopped working.

I can find no reference to messages of this nature - can
someone point me in the right direction to help him solve
please ?
 
Is this a laptop? What make/model? Where was it purchased? The
messages seem to be in Italian? Spanish? for "Suspend Mode" and "Off Mode"
