I need help fixing my list numbering. I can't make it number correctly. I
am working in tables with test procedures. The first column in the table is
the procedure number. I may go from 1 to 14, then need to go 15.1 through
15.12, then pick back up with 16. The problem is with 15.1 through 15.12.
After I put in 15.1 and go to the next line for the next number the automatic
numbering goes to 16.1 but I need it to go to 15.2, and so on. Do I do this
is list numbering or outline numbering? I have tried both but can't make it
work. I have read the posted articles posted numbering but didn't see my
situation addressed. Appreciate any help.

You don't have to use the heading styles in an outline-numbered list.
Instead, create the list with non-heading styles. For example, you can use
the List Number series.

Thank you for the info. I'm not familiar with List Number series but I'll
give it a shot.

The styles I was referring to are called List Number, List Number 2, etc.
They can be attached to the numbering levels of an outline-numbered list in
the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog box (or the Define New Multilevel
List dialog box if you are using Word 2007). And you can then apply the
styles to text paragraphs (similar to how you apply the heading styles).
