Enough moderation to eliminate the pages of junk that are being added would
be nice. It's very annoying, which is obviously the point of whatever idiot
is doing it.

You'll not get much argument from most of us. What you may be unaware of,
though, is that while you're using a web interface to get to these forums,
so that it looks as though it's something Microsoft controls, it's really
NNTP newsgroups.

Because of that, there are many, many servers on which the newsgroup exists.
Microsoft can delete what originates on their server, but cannot delete what
originates on other servers. And even if the spam originated on the
Microsoft server and Microsoft did delete it, if there was a long enough
delay between the time of posting and the time of deletion that the message
was replicated to one or more external servers, their deletion wouldn't
accomplish anything.
