Modems in RC2

M

Michael Henderson

My modem currently does not work in RC2 and I do not expect the vendor
provide drivers.

Does anyone have recommendations on an analog modem that will work in RC2?

Thanks,
Michael

My modem did not work in RC 2 or 5728, where it had worked fine in 5600.
But maybe I should clarify. The modem does work in RC2, I just can't boot
with it enabled, or I get a blue screen. If I want to use my modem, I can
only enable it after Vista is up and running--strange---.

Maybe yours is the same way.

Clark,

Can you please give me the make and model of your modem? Also, can you go to
device manager -> properties for the modem -> Advanced tab and give me the
hardware ID for the modem?

While you are there (in device manager) from the driver tab can you get the
driver name, version and date for the driver that loads for your modem.

Michael, are you looking for recomendations on PCI analog modems, USB analog
modems or external serial analog modems that have support on Windows Vista?

Thanks
Rade

It is a Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem

Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_14F1&DEV_10B4&SUBSYS_9300141D&REV_89

It is the one with the Conexant chipset (3025C).

As I mentioned, it worked fine in RC 1, but I won't in RC2 or 5728. All the
drivers look the same except for modem.sys which was updated.

cxt10b4.cty
mdmxsdk.sys
modem.sys
winachcf.sys
hsfinst.dll
mdmxsdk.dll

Clark, thanks for the information.

Did you get the driver for this modem via Windows Update or did you install
it from a CD provided by the manufacturer?

Thanks

Tried Both the Windows and Zoom drivers. The only driver that seemed to
change as far as date and/or size was modem.sys. I tried to put the RC 1
modem.sys driver into RC 2, but of course I wasn't allowed to do
that-TrustedInstaller and such.

The driver was loaded with the first Windows update and the next reboot
caused the BSOD. I would suggest you at least separate the drivers from the
normal Windows update process so as to not cause problems, until the user
knows exactly which driver has been updated to help in troubleshooting.

I did download the one from the Zoom site with exactly the same result. As
I mentioned, the modem works fine if enabled after the OS is already up and
running, but will not boot without a blue screen if enabled. This was done
on clean installs of both 5728 and 5744. 5600 worked fine.

If you need me to try something, I can. With the modem enabled, there are 4
devices on (PCI) 18 interrupt.

Intel 82801EB USB Universal Host Controllers -24D7
Intel 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 24D1
Intel Pro/1000 CT Network Connection
Zoom V.92 PCI Voice Faxmodem

I don't see a way to change the interrupt used. Uses oem7.inf if it helps.
I might try removing my 1394 card to see if it helps.
