Vista Capable?

E

Edwin E. Smith

Hi everyone.

I purchased an HP/Compaq Presario with an AMD Turion 64 bit processor. I
have installed the RC2 beta 64 bit on it and everythging seems to work
except the sound and modem.

Does anyone know if the RTM coming in January will support this or will use
folks with supposedly "Vista Capable" hardware be stuck waiting for HP to
get their act together? SO far there is no NEW news on the HP site and no
Vista drivers at all.

Thanks

Edwin

You get your drivers from HP, however long they may take.

Hi,

It'll be up to HP to supply supporting drivers, but sometimes you can find
them from the component manufacturer. You might try them instead of HP if
needed drivers are not in the RTM version.

As you've been told, whether or not there will be drivers and whether or not
they'll run on any given version of Vista will be up to HP and/or the
hardware manufacturer. Microsoft doesn't write any hardware drivers (except
for their own hardware, mice/keyboards, etc) and there's no way we can tell
you what HP is or is not planning. I would suggest contacting them for an
answer.

I have installed Windows Vista RC2 on an HP dv6045nr laptop, and the sound,
modem and wireless are all working fine. You should have no problem on your
machine. The only thing that does not work in my instance is the built in
webcam, and the extra functions of my Logitech Media Play mouse.

Edwin, Vista RC2 is constantly upgrading their driver data base. When I first
loaded it on my 32 bit computer, I could not address C-Media sound Cards, A
week later it downloaded the drivers and the 32 bit computer works fine. On
my 64 bit computer, I had difficulties with Creative Audigy drivers that
worked, if you play around They will install and work, Not many manufactors
are making drivers for Vista until it is completely and Finally released, so
I would suggust to do what I did, Dual boot and have XP and Vista on the same
machine and use either o/S for diffrent requirementsd until Vista catches
up... Good Luck
