Hello all. Here is a real challenge. I got a WinXP Pro
system with a so-called V.92 modem (U.S.Robotics 5699B).
None of the "features" worked with it, so I installed my
old PM560LKC 56K/V.90 Actiontec Call Waiting PCI internal
modem. When I did this I could not connect to AOL 9.0
Optimized. It would stop on Step 3, then redial after a
minute. It worked fine in AOL 8.0. On my old Windows 98
system, the modem worked fine in AOL 9.0 Optimized, but
since I reinstalled it in the old system it only works in
AOL 8.0. Very odd. This is a hardware modem, not one of
those WINmodems. How did a driver in Windows XP mess it
up? I was surprised that a driver could affect the
hardware itself, but either it did, or I physically messed
up something on the modem, which I think is highly
unlikely considering it still works. I would be
interested to see if anyone knows what might be done to
fix such a problem. I am at a total loss myself. Please
help... all suggestions welcome. Thanks.
