I'm having issues with a modem on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
Unfortunatley, I suspect that this will fall somewhere between the OS
(XP Home) and the application (Earthlink) making it difficult to
diagnose/solve.
In the process of ridding this machine of viruses recently the modem
suddenly went missing. It was there and working fine but following one
of many reboots it just ceased to function. I wasn't doing anything
explicitly with the modem at the time.
At this point I can see the "Toshiba Software Modem" in the Phones
portion of the control pannel and I can query the modem via the
diagnostics there. The only thing which seems odd there is that it
reports that the CLS command is not supported. Other than that it seems
fine.
But when I try to connect using the latest Earthlink software it reports
that it can't establish a connectoid (a new word?) and that I should
uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Been there, done that - to no avail.
Anyone seen anything similar or have any suggestions...
Thanks,
Steve
