Modem port busy

I have to have my modem switch on before i start win XP pro. Otherwise the port for the modem claimes to be in use by an other application. Anybody have a clue how to solve this? I have all win updates installed.

Have you checked for updated drivers for your modem, have you checked the
modem manufacturer's tech support for possible help with this issue, have
you checked for possible firmware updates for your modem with the modem
manufacturer?
