Modem is not installed properly, primary user cannot connect

Recently I have been experiencing a plethora of problems with accessing the
internet. My son was able to access, yet I , the primary user could not.
The yahoo browser would close with an error message as soon as I typed in my
password. I went through all of the prerequisite software solutions given by
my ISP to no avail. Internet explorer will not load up and I cannot access
the internet unless I am in safe mode. My computer has begun to crash and I
have had problems with various software applications since this internet
problem started.

Is there a way to reset/reload my modem? What are possible causes (aside
from a virus) for the subsequent problems I've had with my P.C.?
 
Telling us that you have "a plethora of problems with accessing the
internet" and "problems with various software applications" doesn't come
close to providing enough information for troubleshooting, so it's
anyone's guess. First things I would suspect are viruses, spyware,
trojans and other assorted malware.
