mmc stops working after installing .net framework 1.0 SP3

Hello all,

I've just installed .net framework SP3 and now, selecting "Microsoft .NET
Framework Configuration" from the "Administrative Tools" menu produces an
error dialog which says "MMC cannot open the selected file" in Win2000.

I´ve seen in an earlier post that the Microsoft developers have examined the
behavior and confirmed that this is, indeed, a bug in the MSCORCFG.MSC file
format, and it will be problably fixed in SP4.

The problem is, I can´t wait for SP4 and I was wondering is someone could
post me the correct MSCORCFG.MSC file, please. I would be greatfull for that.

thanks.

I too am in the same boat here. MS' KB article 891109 states to obtain this
file from MS Product Support Services
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;891109

How? By email? Why is there simply not a link around to an FTP server or
the like to download this simple thing. Arrgh...one small step for a
developer, one large step for MS.

Can someone please post a reply to this group with either this file
attached, or a link to where to download it?

Thanks,
David

Read the page again. It tells you to get it from an earlier version of the
..Net Framework. Search MS for the 1.0 framework, download it, and it should
be in there.

Matt,

Yes, my literacy skills are good and I realise MS states to go and search
out mscorcfg.msc from another machine with the same configuration (i.e.
Win2K/Framework v1.0, no sp) - what a ridiculous alternative unless working
in a larger firm with no concerted deployment. Not suitable whatsoever for
independent developers and/or those without access to another machine not
yet 'upgraded'.

Logistic constraints aside (and not wanted to spend time and $$$ resolving a
bug caused by MS), I followed your suggestion. To give explicit
information here in the event of others reading this, I opened dotnetfx.exe
on my Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect v2002 'Microsoft Windows
Component Update' CD. Viewing this self-extracting arc, there is the
netfx1.cab file. Within this cab file, the only thing of interest would be
the mscorcfg_dll_1_... file. At 1.5MB, this would likely be the original
file for
C:\WinNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\mscorcfg.dll

So does anyone else have some suggestions or perhaps more explicit details
if I have followed the wrong path above.

Best regards,
David
