MM won't capture if analog converted via miniDV

I output my analog CanonHi8 camerato a Canon ZR65 miniDV
to convert it to digital and passed the result via
firewire to MM. The video and audio come through fine but
MM refuses to capture the data because it says no tape is
present.

Short of putting a tape in the ZR65 and actually recording
the analog on the mniDV then subseqenty capturing it in
MM, is there a way to get MM to not need a tape in the
miniDV camcorder and capture the stream?
