MLS App wont run on TS

Peter Scott

We recently installed a 32bit application (Wyldfyre 6) for Real Estate on a
member server running Win2k (Application Mode) SP4

It runs fine in if your an administrator - but general (as in domain) users
get this message:

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022)"

In the event viewer it is showing as event id 26

If I add the domain users to the local administrators group - it works.

As the program is installed in 'c:\MLS' - I have changed the NTFS
permissions for EVERYONE to FULL - still no luck.

I have been reading hours - try many things but I have failed..

I tried using the tool APPSEC - but no luck either.

I tried changing the Terminal Server Mode to NT4 Compatible - no luck.

There must be a way around this - as I do not wish to add the domain users
in the LOCAL ADMINISTRATORS group on the member because of one application
(i'm sure you understand).

It's 6am - I've got to get some sleep before I have to deal with the boss...

Is there a superman out there? Can you save me?

I suggest that you contact the company responsible for this application. It
is possible that the user does not have permissions to some part of the
registry, or something else. But it is very difficult for us to find this
out, and only the people who wrote the application knows what it needs
access to.

It is possible that Filemon and Regmon can give you any clue, but you should
not really have to do this. You bought the software, and it is defenitely
not working as expected (users should not need to be member of
administrators to run the application), so the software company should fix
this.

Anyway, here's a link to Filemon and Regmon:

I have had this problem with some educational software. I
agree with Kristofer, contact the company: however, a
little trick I learnt some time ago was to allow
Everyone/Authenticated Users modify or full control
permissions on the %systemroot%\Temp folder. Some
educational software requires this for some reason.

Worth a try!!!

Thanks Kristofer

Their statement is they will not support the application in a terminal
server enironment.

Being though it is a 32bit application that uses a flat file database
structure - it should run with no problems.

Their suggestions were to give the EVERYONE group full access to the program
folder (which I already performed).

I'll try using the files you recommended to see what other system files it
could be calling.

Thanks - Peter

Does the app run correctly as a limited user on the local machine - as
opposed to through Terminal Services?

If not, given that it installs in:

....I'd complain to the app maker and tell them to learn how to design apps
for current and supported versions of Windows. Win2K's four years old and
we're still seeing this garbage? Do they have competition?
