Mixing Numbers and Bullets

Hi,
I am being driven slowly crazy by this: I am starting a
numbered sequence. After #2 I have three lines that I
would like to bullet point before moving onto #3.

As soon as I try to make #3 a number, it goes back and
changes the bullet points to numbers. How can I prevent
that from happening?

Create two paragraph styles - one bulleted the other with outline numbering.
Apply the styles to the paragraphs.
Make sure the automatic update check box is not set in the format style
dialog.

Better still, just apply one of the built-in List Number and List Bullet
styles.

Thanks for the reply. Bear with me. Where do I find the
Automatic Update Check box? I looked in Options but
can't seem to find it there.

Although Graham said: "in the format style dialog," "Automatically update"
is actually in the Modify Style dialog.
