Mixing file formats

I have a .mdb back end file that is replicated. All our computers will have
Access 2007. Is it OK to use an .accde as the front end linked to the .mdb
file?

Without actually testing, that should work fine, Sallie.

Naturally you will not be able to use some of the new stuff (such as
Attachment fields) in the MDB back end.

Yes, Front-end only, and assuming the data is in version 2000 or later (I'm
not sure about Access 97).

The structures of the data are sufficiently different that you must make
sure that you compact the data from one of the MDBs. It may be smart enough
to know the structure, but it may also be dumb enough to just convert it.

Thank you for your prompt replies. It had been working well on one computer,
but I have recently had trouble synchronizing with some of the other
computers that are still using Access 2002 and wondered if I was asking for
trouble.
You mentioned something about compacting. I compact one replica.mdb using
Access 2007 and another using 2002, could this cause a problem when I
synchronize? The error I get is "search key not found".

I'm not sure, because I don't have Access 2007 loaded on my production
machines. It's logical to me though that all the data should be compacted
with the Access 2002 machine since that's where it resides. Your Access 2007
is a front-end, which shouldn't be replicated anyway. (Only data gets
replicated), so the 2007 front-ends need to be compacted with 2007 machines,
and the older versions with their version.
