mixing audio channels?

Now I have a couple of questions

1. my moviemaker icon says moviemaker 2, is this the latest version?

2. this is the important question, I wish to use both the audio from the
recorded videos and the audio from my selected audio files, as far as I can
see, the software only allows you to put your audio to one setting for the
entire project/film. There is no means in swapping between the 2 channels of
sound (the sound from the video recording and the sound from the audio files)
I have clicked on everything and can not find a solution.

This seems a serious limitation of this software!!

================================
Latest version of for Windows XP is 2.1.
It's installed as a component of Windows XP SP2.

Maybe I don't understand the question...but...

You can split the video and /or audio clips
anywhere you like and adjust the volume
of the individual clips.

Maybe something in the following
tutorial will work for you:

"Splitting A Clip In MM2.1"

Drag the video/audio clip to the
Timeline.

Play the video/audio by clicking the
"Play" button under the view screen.

You will see the Playback Indicator
(vertical line) advancing across the
timeline.

Click the "Pause" button at the point
where you wish to trim and type...
Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the
bottom of the view screen.
(you can also make adjustments by
dragging the Playback Indicator)

Make as many splits as you want and
adjust the volume or even mute any clip
you wish.

If you want to "suspend" the audio stream during the playback of your
video/audio, then you need to split the audio clip (I like to use fade out
and fade in on the two separate pieces). Once the audio is split, you can
drag the second piece to the right so that it begins after your video clip
and sound are done.
