Mixed Up Mother Goose Deluxe Ed

S

speedo_guy

Has anyone had any luck getting this to run in XP? A
friend at work asked for help... so far, compatibility
mode hasn't done it. Working my way through the
ACT fixes, but it's slow. Game runs fine in 95 and 98;
crashes right after opening screens in XP (no, the MS
patch doesn't fix it). "NTVDM.exe" error... Had the
same results on every XP system I tried in on.

Great kids game, btw...

Thanks!

Hi Speedo_guy,

There are some patches and installation information available for that game at:
http://www.sierraplanet.com/mothergoose/technical.html which also indicates
that it's a DOS game.

When a game is a DOS game, it could work using compatibility mode:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=292533 or by using the Multiboot
bootdisk from: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~lpcd/downloads.html .

With DOSBOX you can emulate a DOS computer on your XP desktop:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/information.php

If you prefer to explore other advanced methods, here are two of the best
tutorials I've found on the subject: http://www.dosgames.com/xphints.php
and: http://home.earthlink.net/~angeldancer27/XpGameList.htm :)

Hi Jimmy!

Thank you very kindly for your detailed and helpful
post. I have not tried everything you mentioned yet, but
I have tried a few of the ideas. The MUMG Deluxe Edition
is a Windows game. If you try to run it in DOSBOX or a
similar DOS emulator (I did try this), it reports "this
program requires Windows". So that is out.

None of the built-in XP compat patches will do it.

The Sierraplanet web site has quite a few hints, but they
seem mostly aimed at earlier versions of Windows and
hardware, and particularly systems that were resource
shy. None of them seem to help.

But there is more to try. I will keep working on this at
least for a while, and if I find something that does
work, I will surely post it to this NG so that others can
benefit. Right now, the best idea I can muster is to
wipe the guy's system and reload it to dual boot 98 and
XP.

Many thanks for your polite and helpful response!

Best regards,

speedo_guy

When I try to run "mixedup mother goose deluxe" from Windows XP I get a error message ntvdm.exe error. Do you have any Idea how to fix this? It gets stuck at where It says"choose a child".

How to run mixed-up mother goose deluxe under win xp

Well, this is how it works for me

It's pretty easy. First you need to download sierra installer king quest collection disk 3 from sierra.
Second, set the compability of game to windows 95
third, when choosing any child, do not use more than two character for the name. You'll get past the NTVDM.exe error.

happy playing.

PS. According to some situastion, you may not need to use step1 to play the game, just skip to step 2.
