Hi all. I hope I can find help here. After recovering from a virus attack on
my computer, I installed Spyware Doctor and during normal operation, it
reported a hidden process and asked if I want it deleted the next time the
system reboots. I clicked yes to remove wmiprvse.exe. Since then, my event
log shows error starting DCOM server due to the failure to locate the said
file.
Running MS Info from dxdiag doesn't give me any system information.

Is there a way to rectify this problem and get my system back to normal
operation without any problems? Thanks in advance.

And now you know why it is important not to blindly believe in what a
third-party program tells you needs to be deleted.

First try the System File Checker:
Start>Run>sfc /scannow [enter]

Have your XP install cd handy.

If that doesn't work, then do a Repair Install:
