Missing Tray Icons

Wonder if anyone can help ? I have about 8 programs
running in the background but only 1 or 2 icons show in
the system tray and they appear randomly. Each time I
boot thay change, sometimes 1 will show and sometimes 6.
Any help would be appreciated.
