Missing Text on Certain Webpages

I have XP Pro, IE 6.0, DirectX 9.0b, ATI Radeon 9200 Pro.
I am having a problem where certain text is missing from
webpages. The only two webpages that I have noticed this
on so far are a University of Maryland website:
http://de.ad.umuc.edu and the homepage for Microsoft.com.

The UMUC page has a bunch of options like Registering,
Class Schedules, Staff, etc...All I see is the "Welcome
to UMUC Asia site" and something that says "Registration
is now open." I do NOT see all the links to other pages
on the site, however if I go to another computer and look
at the same site, I see all the options.
With Microsoft.com, I am not seeing the logo in the upper
left corner upon loading the homepage.

When I looked at the source of the UMUC site, I noticed
that it was Javascript. So I uninstalled and
downloaded/installed the latest version of Java, thinking
that was the cause, but that did not help. I uninstalled
a hotfix for IE that I had downloaded, but that didnt do
anything either.

I am out of options here. I really want to find out what
the cause of this issue is. Can ANYONE help me?

Check your Encoding in the View menu (Alt-V,d)
Make sure that you have Auto-Select checked.

FWIW on the first site I see: Western European (Windows)
and on the microsoft site I see: Western European (ISO)

BTW Java has nothing to do with Javascript. ;)
