Missing Send/Receive button in Outlook 2003

Coloradogal

I know it used to be there! I have used Outlook for many
years, but this vital button has disappeared and even
uninstalling and reinstalling Office has not fixed this.
Anyone else out there have this problem? I have up-to-
date virus definitions so I don't think I've got a virus.
I have been using Outlook Express as a stop-gap but need
to get Outlook fixed soon.

Check your tool> accounts and verify you have an account
setup. I had the same issue where a user deleted her
account.

Yes, I have an account all set up. It works in Outlook
Express so I know the settings are correct. The
Send/Receive button appears for a split second when I
start Outlook but then disappears.

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Thanks Milly! Renaming outcmd.dat solved my problem. I upgraded from 2000, and some invalid toolbar commands somehow remained.

The only time I know when it is missing is when there is no email account
set up. Worth eliminating

I had the same problem - - Make a new email - then right click on the
status bar and hook up the icon for Send. Don't ask me why it goes away
- mine just suddenly was gone - I think it was when an update was done
for one of my extra systems in Outlook. I hope this help.
