Missing Screensaver tab

E

Ellen

Hi All,

I wanted to change my screensaver, so went to:

C:\Start\control panel\display.... but there was no tab screensaver
anymore. Just Themes, Desktop, Appearance and settings.

Is there a way to get my tab screensaver back without going thru drastic
methods?? (I have Windows XP, Home edition, SP2)

Thanks so much!
Ellen

Scan your system to rid of Spyware, malware, and parasites.

Adaware SE (free)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download

Spybot - search and destroy (free)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Trend Micro - Housecall (free)
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Kasperky Web Scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Edit the Registry (regedit.exe)

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
and/or
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
Value Name: NoDispScrSavPage
Data type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: (0 = Tabs, 1 = No Tabs)
Or delete the "NoDispScrSavPage" in the right-hand pane.

Hi WTC,

I scan my laptop a few times a week for Spyware, malware, and parasites,
using ad-aware, Spybot and some other programs like spyware Doctor and CW
Shredder.
Last run was a few hours ago and nothing found.

Further I have scheduled daily my anti-virus (Panda Platium 2006) for a full
system scan and this has found 2 days in a row a malware which suppose to be
removed
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\INTERNET
SETTINGS\ZONEMAP\DOMAINS\DEFAULTBAR.COM).

I checked the register and found the key NoDispScrSavPage only in
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] ant it was
set to zero.
So after making a back-up of the registery, I deleted it, as you suggested.
Rebooted and still the tab is not displayed...

Thanks,
Ellen

The only other places I would inspect physically are:

[HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft] and the subkeys.
[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft] and the subkeys.

Is the Screensaver tab missing when you log in as a different user?

I only have a guest account and yes, the same problem there...

Also for some reason my Panda Platium is uninstalled when I switch to the
guest account...
Maybe I need to do a clean install and I will also have my Scanner and
Camera Problem solved... and who knows what other issues, I am not aware
of.

I guess I messed something up a while ago, while uninstalling a program via
JV16 Power tools.

Well we learn each day!

I am going to bed now.

Thanks so far!

Not to sure waht is causing this problem. Usually it is a policy restriction
but we already check for the registration entries.
