Missing screen icons

On a Windows xp (home) computer, all of the desktop icons
have disappeared. I have tried creating new shortcuts by
right clicking on the desktop, selecting new and walking
through the procedure. After I finish, the last dialog
box closes and there's no new icon.

I've also tried dragging the users icons from his desktop
profile to the all user's profile. No difference.

Any ideas on how to repair this problem are greatly
appreciated.

Have you tryed using the classic style for the desktop????
