O/S WIN XP PRO with SP1
I accidentally deleted a registry entry while in windows.
When I re-booted all icons now have “.lnk” after them and
I receive several error messages saying that my start up
programs (during loading into windows) “can’t find
programs they’re associated with.
I DO NOT HAVE A BACKUP OF THE REGISTRY.
I believe I accidentally deleted the file rundll32.exe.
Also, the “run” command under start button is no longer
there.
I believe I need to somehow find ways of doing a system
restore to an earlier time from a DOS prompt but not
within WIN XP. I am unable to access the programs,
accessories, system tools, system restore button under the
start button.
I tried booting up in safe mode with command prompt and
tried to use a couple of methods from within WIN XP
according to the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles but
this did not work.
Are there any ideas on how to restore to an earlier time?
Are there any other options available?
Thanks
