Missing Recycle Bin

I'd be grateful for advice on the following:
My hard disk is almost full but I am unable to empty the Recycle Bin. Not
only has it disappeared from the Desktop but I am unable to locate it through
a search of the 'C' Drive. Can anyone shed light on this problem?

Right click an empty area on your desktop > Properties > Desktop > Customise
Desktop, you can replace the bin from there.

Open a window, any click the down arrow in the Address bar, and look to see
if its there under that listing, just scroll down.

Except that it is the item you *can't* restore from there, just change
the icon.
