missing or corrupt file cant start expert advice needed

Help.

I get this error when I start my computer:

Windows could not start because the folowing file is
missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows
setup using the original Setuo CD-Rom.
Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.


So.. I put in my Windows XP Home edition and type r in the
first screen, but have no idea what to do now. All I get
is c:\windows at the Microsoft Windows XP(TM) Recovery
Console..

All help is appreciated

You got that far w/o a password..In recovery type:CHKDSK C: /
When its thru type:EXIT For more info type:HELP or a cmd,like:CHKDSK C: /?
