Missing operative system on the old computer

Me again.
Forgot to ask; When I started up my old computer today it responded
something like: Maxtor......S.M.A.R.T. capable but disabled before it came
up with the message. missing operative system. Now it's up running, but I'm
afraid of turning my machine off. I also can't find my F-drive. 3 HD's. C, E
and F.
Any suggestions?

S.M.A.R.T is a utility to check your hd for faults,
disables means it doesn't check your hd for faults
it has the capability to notify you of possible faults
before they get critical and your HD fails.
it's a good id to enable the SMART.
I suggest you reboot your system, and see if the fault
is still there.

How old is your system? it could be a cable problem, just
a bad connection, make sure your connections are tight
